Where are the majority of aneurysms located in relation to the renal arteries?

The majority of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are found below the renal arteries. This occurs because the development of an AAA is more common in the portion of the aorta that is distal to the renal arteries, where the walls can be subjected to higher hemodynamic forces and where atherosclerotic changes are more prevalent. The abdominal aorta typically narrows as it travels downstream, and aneurysms tend to form in areas that are subject to wear and tear due to blood flow dynamics and pressure fluctuations.

While some aneurysms can occur at or above the level of the renal arteries, they are less common there as compared to the segment that lies distal to these arteries. In contrast, an aneurysm located within the renal arteries would also be an unusual condition, as renal artery aneurysms are quite rare. Therefore, the most frequent site for aneurysms in relation to the renal arteries is clearly below them.
